Artist Bio

Bruce Hermann started painting when the pandemic suddenly confiscated his forty-year career as an actor, director, and teacher of theatre. His first brush strokes proved epically inspiring. He has painted on canvas, first with oils, later with acrylics, every day since. This relentless creative urge has him constantly drawing and experimenting with mixed media, and he especially enjoys scavenging found objects for their surface potential.

Born and raised in the New York area, his work as a theatre artist allowed him to roam the United States and Europe. He taught acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse (w/Sanford Meisner), Ohio State, Virginia Commonwealth, Texas Tech, and Rose Bruford (London). He has acted more than one hundred roles on stage and directed fifty theatrical productions.

He holds degrees from Gettysburg College (BA) and VCU (MFA).
Bruce received teaching awards from Ohio State and Texas Tech and,
in 2019, won Best Supporting Actor at the Festival of Film, NYC.

Having lived and worked for many years on the Upper West Side of NYC where he painted himself out of his canvas-filled studio apartment, Bruce recently relocated to the greener pastures of Charlottesville, Virginia.
